Preoperative

In order for you to have a bichectomy in complete safety, we must assess your general condition based on your possible drug and environmental allergies, personal and family pathological history, habitual and past medication, possible previous surgical interventions, toxic habits (tobacco), etc.

At the Guadalupe González Clinic we will also take preoperative photographs, which will help us before, during and after the bichectomy.

Surgical technique

The extraction of the Bichat balls is carried out in an operating room under local anesthesia, depending on each patient. It usually lasts about 1 hour.

An intraoral incision (posterior part of the jugal mucosa) is made and a large part of the Bichat bursa is removed and the small incision is sutured. This surgery can be accompanied by other surgical procedures, in which case general anesthesia may be the best option.

POSTOPERATIVE

Normally this surgery is outpatient, staying only a few hours in the clinic. If general anesthesia has been required, an overnight stay in the hospital may be chosen. In both cases, the patient should follow a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication and antibiotics as well as rinse with a mouthwash. To reduce inflammation and possible bruising, the patient should keep her head elevated and avoid straining. After the first week, the stitches can be removed.
