Otoplasty

The most requested surgeries

They are those destined to remodel the auricle.

Otoplasty or plastic intervention of the ears, is performed to correct the prominent ears due to the lack of the natural folds of the cartilage of the ear (antihelix) or the increased projection of one of them (shell), it can also be correct their size.

Am I a candidate for an otoplasty?

Those people over 6 years of age who present:

  • an “unfolded” pinna, that is, due to the absence of a natural cartilage fold in its central part called the antihelix,
  • or that the ear is “detached”, as a consequence of the cartilage at its junction with the skull (shell) being too high and therefore the ears are detached from the head
  • or an oversized ear

!! YOU ARE A GOOD CANDIDATE !!

What is the price of an otoplasty?

At Guadalupe González Clinic we offer you the highest medical quality at the best price. We take care of everything so that you don’t have to worry about a thing. All these services are included in the otoplasty price:

  • Preoperative study (surgery, nursing, anesthesia consultation and all complementary tests included).
  • Operating room expenses.
  • Postoperative medical check-ups until discharge including pain management for greater comfort.

Preoperative

In order for you to have an otoplasty safely, we must assess your general condition based on your possible drug and environmental allergies, personal and family pathological history, habitual and past medication, possible previous surgical interventions, toxic habits (tobacco), etc.

In case of requiring general anesthesia, it is also necessary to have a general analysis, chest x-ray and electrocardiogram. With this study, the patient is visited by an anesthesiologist who will verify the results, as well as solve any doubts.

At Guadalupe González Clinic we will also take preoperative photographs, which will help us before, during and after otoplasty.

Surgical technique

Otoplasty is performed in an operating room with local or general anesthesia, depending on each patient. It usually lasts approximately 1h 30 min, depending on the technique required for each case.

Taking into account the anatomical structures to be modified, an incision is usually made in the posterior part of the pinna from where the cartilage is accessed to later reduce the shell, bend the unfolded cartilage and suture it or both techniques. Pinna reduction surgery is usually performed anteriorly, camouflaging the scars in the anatomical folds. This surgery can also be used to correct ragged lobes or modify their size or shape.

POSTOPERATIVE

Normally in adults this surgery is ambulatory, staying only a few hours in the clinic. If general anesthesia has been required, an overnight stay in the hospital may be chosen. In both cases, the patient wears a bandage and a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication and antibiotics. To reduce inflammation and possible bruising, the patient should keep her head elevated and avoid straining and blows (in the case of children). After the first week, the stitches can be removed but it is advisable to keep a bandage or tape that keeps the ears in position until the inflammation subsides.
