The most requested surgeries
designed to elevate the upper lip is the lip lift
The lip lift, upper lip lift or filtrum shortening is the surgery performed to reduce the distance between the nose and the upper lip.
The lips lengthen over the years either due to the passage of time or after the injection of some type of filler. This makes the teeth not visible when smiling, giving the appearance of an aged mouth and a disproportionate face.
This lip lift surgery makes the patient look more rejuvenated.

Preoperative
In order for you to safely do an upper lip lift, we must assess your general condition based on your possible drug and environmental allergies, personal and family pathological history, habitual and past medication, possible previous surgical interventions, toxic habits (tobacco), etc. .
At the Guadalupe González Clinic we will also take preoperative photographs, which will help us before, during and after the filtrum shortening.
Surgical technique
The upper lip lift is performed in an operating room under local anesthesia. It usually lasts about 1 hour, depending on the technique required for each case.
Taking into account that the surgery is aimed at shortening the vertical length of the upper lip, and raising or everting the vermilion, an incision is made at the base of the nasal pyramid, following the contour of the nasal wings and the columella, in a very precise to camouflage the scar. It is dissected under the subcutaneous fat and above the muscle. Skin and subcutaneous tissue are resected, usually a 2-3 mm strip, that is, 25% of the vertical height of the lip. The resection will be more uniform or more extensive in the center depending on the shape we are looking for. It should be borne in mind that this surgery can be associated with fat micrografts to increase the volume of the philtrum, vermilion, camouflage the nasolabial folds, project the lip, etc. It can also be performed in the context of a more complete facial surgery.
POSTOPERATIVE
This surgery is outpatient, staying only a few hours in the clinic. If it has been associated with other procedures and general anesthesia has been required, it is possible to choose to spend a night in the hospital. In both cases, the patient has stitches and “plasters” locally and will require a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication and antibiotics. To reduce inflammation and possible bruising, the patient should keep the head elevated and avoid straining. After the first week, the stitches can be removed.
