Preoperative

In order for you to undergo a rhinoplasty with total safety, we must assess your general condition based on your possible drug and environmental allergies, personal and family pathological history, habitual and past medication, possible previous surgical interventions, toxic habits (tobacco), accidents, etc.

Since it is performed under general anesthesia, it is also necessary to have a general analysis, chest x-ray and electrocardiogram. With this study, the patient is visited by an anesthesiologist who will verify the results, as well as solve any doubts.

At Guadalupe González Clinic we will also take preoperative photographs, which will help us before, during and after nose surgery.

Surgical technique

Rhinoplasty is performed in an operating room with general anesthesia, depending on each patient. It usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the technique required for each case: open or closed. In both techniques, different surgical maneuvers can be performed, such as filing the back, reduction, elevation and refinement of the nasal tip and fracture of the nasal bones to narrow the nose.

In some cases, rhinoplasty is performed with the intention of increasing the size of the nose, raising the back, sharpening and elevating the tip, and narrowing its base.

POSTOPERATIVE

The first 24 hours, hospital admission to the clinic is recommended. As a “bandage” a splint is placed on the back of the nose and an intranasal packing (for 2-3 days). During the admission you will receive treatment with analgesics-anti-inflammatories and intravenous antibiotics until you tolerate the oral diet.

During the first days after rhinoplasty, the nose and adjacent areas are swollen and bruised, but as time passes they spontaneously disappear. The nasal splint is removed after 7-10 days. When the splint is removed, the nose will be slightly swollen; It must be borne in mind that the final result of a rhinoplasty will be obtained approximately 6 months after surgery. Although the inflammation of the nasal tip may take a little longer to disappear.

Will I be able to wear glasses after rhinoplasty?

After the fourth or fifth week, a bony callus appears at the fracture site. For this reason, the use of glasses after a rhinoplasty is not contraindicated from that moment on, but it must be taken into account that due to the inflammation, at first a more visible mark will remain in the place where they rest. The initial use of contact lenses, glasses without nasal support or resting the glasses on the surgical splint is always preferable.
